Full Description

A bowl barrow, perhaps of Early Bronze Age date, located on the boundary between the parishes of Long Crichel and Tarrant Launceston. Listed by Grinsell as Long Crichel 4 and by RCHME as Tarrant Launceston 48. Described by RCHME as having been levelled by the early 1970s, the mound had previously been recorded as 60 feet in diameter and surviving to a height of about 1 foot. EBA Beaker potsherds were found in a rabbit scrape on the mound by G Wilmot in April 1937. On arable, showing as chalk ring enclosing core of mould. <2 & 2a> , <3> Situated 55 yds NE of the barrow (ST 91 SE 47). This barrow had been levelled by 1972 and further degradation means that it has not been recommended for scheduling. Ground photo with archive report. <4>
