Summary

Later Prehistoric and Roman finds discovered at Monkton Farm and the neighbouring area prior to 1868 while draining a water meadow. The finds include "six bronze torques and two bronze armillae"; several Neolithic polished axes and Bronze Age bronze axes and swords; bronze fibulae (Iron Age or Roman?), gouges (?Bronze Age), rings, iron spearheads, barbed arrohweads, coloured glass beads, "terra-cotta amulets and worked pieces of kimmeridge shale".

Full Description

"On Monkton Farm six bronze torques uniform in size and pattern and two bronze armillae were found a few years ago in draining a water meadow. These are in the possession of Mr. Durden, of Blandford, who has also from that and the neighbouring farm met with several (polished) stone and bronze celts, bronze swords, bronze fibulae, gouges, rings, iron spearheads barbed arrowheads, coloured glass beads, terra-cotta amulets, and worked pieces of Kimeridge shale". <1> Two swords have been wrongly attributed to this area. See ST 90 SE 35 and SU 01 SE 17. <3>
