Summary

A bowl barrow. In 1970 this monument was described as around 64 feet in diameter with a mound about 6½ feet high surrounded by a ditch. Damage to the mound suggests that it was subject to antiquarian investigation. The site of the barrow is visible as low earthworks on lidar imagery and was digitally recorded during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM.

Full Description

A probable bowl barrow, but if a bell barrow, the berm is almost overspread by the mound. Diameter 24 paces, height 9ft. <2> A bush covered barrow. 21.0 metres diameter, 2.5 metres high, surrounded by ditch average 5.0 metres wide, 0.4 metres deep. There is no positive sign of a berm. Hollow centred. <3> SY 84669746. Ditched bowl barrow, 64ft diameter and 6 1/2ft high with ditch 10ft wide,situated on a steepening north slope which has been dug into in the past. <4> SY 84649746: A ditched bowl barrow, in arable but not ploughed over. Diameter overall 31.0 metres, diameter of mound 19.0 metres. Ditch 6.0 metres wide and 0.3 metres deep. Height of mound 2.5 metres. The ditch is visible, except for a short length on the south-east. Resurveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. <5> The site of the barrow is visible as low earthworks on lidar imagery and was digitally recorded during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM. <7>
