Monument record MDO53 - Lime kiln north of the village, Abbotsbury

Please read our .

Summary

A lime kiln noted from the first edition (1886-9), second edition (1900-2) and 1967 Ordnance Survey maps. The date of the kiln is not known but it is not shown on the tithe map of 1841, and so it is most likely to be late nineteenth century. The site of this kiln was visited by Peter Stanier in 1992-93, and he noted that very little (1-19 percent) of the kiln structure survived; what remained was in bad condition and it was not possible to determine what type of kiln construction this was.
