Monument record MDO5496 - Romano-British settlement near Jack's Hedge Corner, Cranborne

Summary
A Romano British settlement which has now been almost totally levelled by ploughing. Cropmarks representing late Iron Age and Roman settlement are visible on air photographs. Located northwest of Jack's Hedge corner, the settlement appears to have been open, but also appears to overlie some fields. Surface finds described as 'Durotrigian' and Romano-British have been recovered from the area.

Full Description
Visible on the ground as vague lynchets and soil discolourations. Air photographs 58/RAF/1212 F21 Nos 0148-9, show a series of irregular banks and depressions. <2>
Cranborne 34. 'Open' enclosure with ?ovoid encapsulated. Area 3.3ha. Jack's Hedge Corner. Field walking by Mr M Newman-Wren has produced Durotrigian and RB finds to 4th century. <4-5>
