Full Description

WAKE SMART Collection in Dorset Co Museum No 1889/1/23. Old No 160. From CRANBORNE MARSH 1860. [May apply to the Marsh on CRANBORNE COMMON] An RB oil flagon. Yellowish paste. May have had a red slip. Ht 5.4". <1> [SU 06481310] CRANBORNE MARSH is shown on NORDEN'S survey of 1605 as the small triagular piece of ground indicated. It is probably the only undisturbed piece of ground in CRANBORNE. The name CRANBORNE MARSH is no longer used. <2> The area appears as undisturbed marsh and it is difficult to understand how anything could have been discovered in such ground. <3> Probably associated with Ro building site, DORSET 16 N.E.3. <4>
