Summary
A bowl barrow in an area of old gravel pits. This barrow is reported as being about 100 feet in diameter with a mound about seven feet high, and surrounded by a well-defined ditch. The feature is visible on aerial photographs taken in the 1940s and on current Lidar imagery and was digitally plotted from these sources by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description
(a) (SZ 06809948) A bowl barrow, 33 paces in diameter. 7 ft. in height. Surrounded by a ditch 4 paces wide and 2ft. deep. <2>
Situated on slightly higher ground than the surrounding country, and on heathland. A. The mound - Average dimensions 34.4m. diameter, and 3.8m. high with a surrounding ditch, average 4.5m. wide and 0.5m. deep. No positive signs of excavations. Turf and gorse covered. <3>
SZ 06819948. Bowl barrow 100 feet in diameter, 7 feet high with a well-defined ditch up to two feet deep. Scheduled. <4-5>
A Bronze Age bowl barrow is visible to the west of Heath Farm, Hampreston, on 1940's aerial photographs and on current Lidar imagery <6-7>. The feature comprises a sub-circular mound approximately 30.5m in diameter and a well-defined 5m wide enclosing ditch. Post medieval gravel extraction appears to have slightly encroached into the west and south sides of the feature by 1945 .
The feature was digitally plotted from aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
