Summary

A lime kiln recorded as ‘limekiln’ on the second edition (1900-2) Ordnance Survey map. The date of this kiln is not known but it is most likely to be late nineteenth century. The site was visited in 1992-93 by Peter Stanier, who recorded that most (60-79%) of the structure survived in fair condition. He described the kiln as having a pointed stone-built draw arch.

Full Description

A lime kiln recorded as ‘limekiln’ on the second edition (1900-2) Ordnance Survey map. The date of this kiln is not known but it is most likely to be late nineteenth century. The site was visited in 1992-93 by Peter Stanier, who recorded that most (60-79%) of the structure survived in fair condition. He described the kiln as having a pointed stone-built draw arch. {1} The location of the lime kiln and an associated rectangular extractive pit are visible on aerial photographs. {2-3)
