Monument record MDO6256 - Grave, Church House, Wimborne Minster
Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
One of two graves encountered during the excavation of foundations for an extension to Church House in 1991. The grave had been disturbed, but part of the lower skeleton of an adult female remained in place. No dating evidence was found, but the burial must be earlier than 1617, when a house is known to have been on the site, and is most likely to be medieval in date.

Full Description
A shallow feature, disturbed by the digging of a later rubbish pit. Only the bones of the lower part of the skeleton remained in place in the grave. The bones were a pair of slender femora, those of a mature adult, and their gracile nature led the excavators to conclude that they were probably those of a female. The lower parts of the legs remained in the side of the trench, and were not excavated. (1)(2)
