Full Description
Objects connected with a prehistoric burial recently found in Low Hill quarry, consisting of flint flakes, a boar's tooth, a doe-deer horn, etc, were exhibited. Capt Acland thought the interment was probably Bronze Age. <1>
Bronze Age pottery, now in Sherborne Castle Museum, found at ('C') ST 60871608. Arrowheads found at ('A') ST 60691609, and a Bronze Age urn at ('B') ST 60721610. The evidence points to a one-time barrow. <3>
There is a round barrow, 80 ft in diameter with a ditch visible on the north side, situated 2000 ft north-west of Silverlake Cottages (ST 61401569). A circular mark 500 ft to the north east and 60 ft in diameter is probably a barrow. In 1910 human remains were found between these barrows. <4>
The sites fall in arable land upon the summit of a ridge. There are no surface traces of a barrow to be seen. Low Hill Quarry is now disused and overgrown. <5>
