A Roman coin found during building works near Portland Bill was identified as a Sestertius of Marcus Aurelius. No other finds were recorded.

Full Description
"Portland Bill; SY 67776878. Sestertius, worn, of Marcus Aurelius, (A.D.165-6). Found in building operations west of the Coastguard station at a depth of 4 1/2 ft., and lent for examination by Mr. R. H. Riggs. No other finds finds are recorded". <1>
The coin recorded above was found in a drainage trench at SY 67836874, not where stated. The site is exposed and there are no surface signs to suggest ancient occupation. The coin was probably a casual loss. <2>
