A total of fifteen 17th century clay pipes with some sherds of 18th and 19th century pottery found in soil adjacent to the cellar wall which was disturbed during structural alterations to the Elim Church, Belle Vue , Weymouth. The pipes date to the second half of the 17th century, five pipes were unillustrated and are all of flat heel type and unmarked. One pipe was decorated with moulded grapevine decoration on the stem and grape clusters on each side of the bowl. A heart shaped stamp impressed on the heel depicts a double headed eagle the arms of the city of New Sarum. Another pipe has an eight pointed star on its heel known on pipes from Dorchester and Shaftesbury. The pipes have been deposited in the Dorset County Museum. (1)
