Summary

A lime kiln recorded as ‘limekiln’ on the second edition (1900-1902) Ordnance Survey map. The date of this kiln is not known but it is most likely to be late nineteenth century. The site was visited in 1992-93 by Peter Stanier, who could find no trace of the kiln structure.

Full Description

A lime kiln at Jordan Hill. A lime kiln recorded as ‘limekiln’ on the second edition (1900-1902) Ordnance Survey map. The date of this kiln is not known but it is most likely to be late nineteenth century. The site was visited in 1992-93 by Peter Stanier, who could find no trace of the kiln structure. <1> <2>. The site of the lime kiln is visible as an extant structure on aerial photographs taken in 1946 <3>. It was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
