Full Description
Part of quartzite macehead with dice-box perforation found at Alderney waterworks (SZ 044950). <1>
No information was obtainable at the waterworks, and it is presumed that the macehead was found during the construction of the reservoir about 1931. The macehead is now in Poole Museum; it is exhibited, but has no accession number.
The implement is fashioned from a pebble-like stone of reddish colour. It has been broken off at the perforation, and the existing part is approximately 4 1/2 ins. long, 3 ins. wide and 1 in. thick. <2>
The hour-glass perforation is from 1/2 in. to 3/4 ins. in diameter. Not listed by Wymer (CBA Gaz Me Sites, 1977). <3>
