Full Description
A small number of ditches of possible medieval date were excavated by Poole Museum in evaluation trenches on land off Hinchcliffe Road, Hamworthy in 1978. Two ditches of probable 13th-15th century date were found in Trench 1 to the north and two other possibly medieval ditches were found in Trench 3 to the south. (1)
The ditches were oriented in a NNW-SSE or NW-SE direction, but no coherent pattern could be observed. The function of these ditches is unclear; some may be boundary ditches and others may be for drainage.
