Full Description

Settlement remains centred around ST 69950255, formerly part of Alton village, lie around Croker's Barton. They include some well-preserved closes bounded by low banks and scarps up to 2 feet high, and other more disturbed remains. <1-2> Evidence of village shrinkage probably of post-Medieval date, comprising the site of two or three adjoining cottages at ST 69930265, similar to cottages still standing immediately to the north; with plots to the rear, now under pasture. Nothing of interest south of Croker's Barton (old farm buildings). <3>
