Full Description
A brickworks adjacent to Longfleet Lodge is first marked on the Ordnance Survey 25-inch map epoch 4 suggesting that it was started some time after the mid 1920s and before the mid 1930s. It is shown as disused on post-WW2 maps. (1)
The epoch 4 map shows three rectangular updraught kilns in the north and west part of the site with L-shaped moulding and drying sheds to the east and south. There is a sand pit to the south east and a clay pit to the south west. The brickworks are accessed via a track running past Longfleet Lodge. (1)
Parts of the brickworks were observed during a watching brief during the construction of the playing fields of Canford Heath Middle School in 1991. (2)
