Full Description

SY 7872 9219. A tree and fern covered bowl barrow surrounded by a large tree-ring, constructed around the outer edge of the barrow ditch. The mound has been extensively pitted by military slit trenches and further mutilations. (see illustration card for section across barrow). <2> Surrounded by tree clump circle. <3> Bowl Barrow at Pallington Clump, diameter 70 feet, height 7 ½ feet. Surrounded by a tree clump circle; still prominent with pines. <4> (44)-SY 78739219. Bowl barrow, 70ft diameter and 71/2ft high at Pallington Clump is surrounded by a tree-clump circle. Grinsell refers to this barrow as 24 paces diameter x 61/2ft high. 'A' SY 78729219. Bowl barrow, diameter 22.0m., height 1.7m. With a ditch 3.0m. Wide and 0.5m. Deep. It has a flat top 10.0m. In diameter. Surrounded by a tree ring bank. 'A' Re-surveyed … at 1:2500 on MSD. <5> Planted in 1758. <6> The barrow is visible as an earthwork on lidar imagery of 2010. It is sub-circular in shape and measures 20 m in diameter. The barrow has an external bank measuring up to 6 m in width. <7> This feature was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
