Monument record MDO7000 - Bronze Age Bowl Barrow on Affpuddle Heath, Affpuddle

Summary
Bowl Barrow diameter 51 feet, height 3 feet, much damaged. The barrow is visible as an earthwork on lidar imagery. One of two bowl barrows which form part of a round barrow cemetery on Affpuddle Heath and Bryants Puddle Heath. The barrows have mounds of earth, sand and turf and are surrounded by infilled quarry ditches which survive as buried features.

Full Description
A: SY 8139 9245. A large bowl barrow. No details given. <2>
A. This barrow has a diameter of 14.0 metres and a height of 1.3 metres. It has no ditch and has been mutilated by vehicles tracks from east to west over the top of the mound. Heather covered bowl barrow. … There were no surface finds in the vicinity of these two bowl barrows. <3>

SY 801 923 - SY 815 924: Round barrows on Affpuddle and Bryants Puddle Heath. Scheduled. (see also SY 89 SW 6 & 7). <7>

The Bronze Age barrow is visible as an earthwork on lidar imagery to the south of Cull-peppers Dish. The barrow is sub-circular in shape and measures 17 m in diameter. <10> This feature was digitally plotted as part of the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
