Monument record MDO7001 - Bowl Barrow on Affpuddle Heath, Affpuddle

Summary
Bowl Barrow diameter 26 feet, height 3 feet, hollowed in top. One of two bowl barrows which form part of a round barrow cemetery on Affpuddle Heath and Bryants Puddle Heath. The barrows have mounds of earth, sand and turf and are surrounded by infilled quarry ditches which survive as buried features.

Full Description
Another tumulus (B) a ditched bowl barrow, is noted at SY 8147 9245. <1>
B. Surveyed at SY 8148 9243 is a heather covered bowl barrow with a diameter of 9.0 metres and a height of 1.2 metres. It has a surrounding ditch with an average width of 1.5 metres and an average depth of 0.2 metres. A hollow in the top of the barrow has a diameter of 2.5 metres and a depth of 0.8 metres. There were no surface finds in the vicinity of these two bowl barrows. <2>
B- (58) SY 8149 9243. Bowl barrow, 26ft diameter and 3ft high with hollow on top (but see Grinsell (Authy 2) and Field Investigators (Authy 3) description as ditched bowl). <5>
SY 801 923 - SY 815 924: Round barrows on Affpuddle and Bryants Puddle Heath. Scheduled. (see also SY 89 SW 6 & 7). <6>
B - SY 8148 9243: Diameter 13.0m overall, height 1.2m. Ditch on north-east half 2.0m wide and 0.2m deep. Re-surveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. <7>
