Full Description
(SY 8538 9690) "Belgic or Romano-Belgic pottery found. <1>
Roman-British or Romano belgic sherds found in a pipe trench. Jan 1951. They were found in a 2ft deep trench where it cut through the north-south field boundary immediately south of the gate to the adjoining field. The sherds came from the lower levels of the trench where a band of dark earth was noticed. the shape of one sherd compared with Maiden Castle No.207, and is a Belgic type which persisted into the Roman period. The remaining sherds were nondescript Belgic or Romano-British. The finds are in Miss Lyster's possession at Bere Down Farm. <2>
SY 8538 9691. Siting plotted from description. The surrounding ground is arable. No trace of antiquity. Miss Lyster could not be contacted. <3>
