Full Description

A group of linear banks and ditches are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs (2-3) and Lidar images (4), located to the west of Down Barn. They are considered likely to be the remains of a late prehistoric field system. These features were digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset). Further elements of the possible later prehistoric field system described above in (1-3) are visible as low earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s and 1960s. The earthworks consist of long, angled, linear banks with shorter sections of bank lying perpendicular to them. (2, 5-6) These features were digitally plotted as part of the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
