Summary

A Bronze Age bowl barrow situated at the eastern end of a spur. In 1970 this monument was reported as 45 feet in diameter with a mound 3 feet high.

Full Description

Two round barrows discovered by PA Brown in Blackhills Plantation. <1> SY 92668306. Church Knowle 12. <2> Two bowl barrows in Blackhills Plantation. 'A' is situated at the east end of a spur above very steep slopes to the north and east. Diameter 45 feet. Height 3 feet. <4> 'A' SY 92548310 (Grinsell's grid reference is erroneous). A round barrow approximately 12.5m by 11.0m and up to 0.9m high. It is covered by conifer loppings and brambles and is surrounded by a mature coniferplantation. A ditched round barrow to the north (SY 98 SW 43 C) and a large mound/? Barrow (SY 98 SW 68) are both sited in similar false crest positions. The prominent position of both barrows afford panoramic views in mostdirections especially to the north. Published 1:2500 survey correct. <6>
