Summary

A lime kiln recorded as ‘old limekiln’ on the second edition (1900-2) Ordnance Survey map. The date of this kiln is not known but it is most likely to be late nineteenth century. The site was visited in 1992-93 by Peter Stanier, who could find no trace of the kiln structure. The kiln is marked on the Ist Edition map as lying on the south-east edge of 'Coombe 'Old Chalk Pit', this associated chalk pit is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946 and is visible as a bare soil mark on more recent DCC vertical photographs. It was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.

Full Description

A lime kiln recorded as ‘old limekiln’ on the second edition (1900-2) Ordnance Survey map. The date of this kiln is not known but it is most likely to be late nineteenth century. The site was visited in 1992-93 by Peter Stanier, who could find no trace of the kiln structure.
