Summary

A surface scatter of material suggesting Romano-British occupation. Finds including pieces of Romano-British pottery, flint flakes, part of an unfinished shale armlet, and Roman coins. The pottery and coins are of 3rd and 4th century date.

Full Description

SY 954823. West Hill. Occupation debris comes from ploughing above the 300ft contour on the crest of the narrow ridge overlooking the Corfe gap. Romano-British sherds, some of the 3rd or 4th century, flint flakes, part of an unfinished hand-cut shale armlet, and 26 coins (all of the 4th century down to Gratian apart from two of the 2nd and 3rd centuries) have been found since 1952 on the crest of the hill. <1-5>
