Full Description
Celtic fields incorporating scarps which are probably in part natural but adapted to material use. The fields have medieval strip lynchets superimposed; a grange with close was at Barcombe Farm. <2>
Visible on aerial photographs. An area of rough pasture with faint indications of field banks and lynchets above the 600 ft contour. Between the 600 ft and 500 ft contours there are pronounced natural scarps, almost gulleys, which run down the slope of the hill in NW-SE direction. These seem to have been utilized, but the general appearance of the whole area is that of an IA/RB field system. No medieval strip lynchets were observed in the vicinity. <3>
Listed as Group (41) Squarish 'Celtic' fields overlain by strip lynchets. Uphill some fields end in an arc typical of strip lynchets. See plan. <4>.
Centred ST 70400345. This Celtic field system, partly under pasture and partly under plough, remains as described, and in a fair state of preservation. Well defined on OS air photographs. <5>
