Monument record MDO7616 - Lime kiln at Limekiln Close, Corfe Castle

Please read our .

Summary

A lime kiln identified by Peter Stanier who suggests that maps in the Dorset History Centre (DRO.D/RWR/E16/5, dated around 1772, and DRO.D/RWR/P3, dated 1805) almost certainly shows a kiln with two flues at this location. The kiln is not shown on the second edition (1900-2) Ordnance Survey map. The date of this kiln is not known, but it is clearly at least late eighteenth century in date. Dr Stanier visited the site in 1992-3, and could find no trace of the kiln structure.
