Full Description

(SY 88778660) Many flakes and scrapers, also late Romano-British pottery, found 1945. <1> A large quantity of flints and some R.B. pottery, found on the surface 350 yds south-west of Holme Bridge, by Mr. R.D. Sansom in 1947. The pottery, largely fragments of coarse black ware, included a rim of a bowl of a Collingwood's type 30 and a base of metallic lustred beaker of New Forest ware (early 4th century A.D.) The flints were mostly crude scrapers with some half-round types; others were primary flakes with secondary chipping, and one broken flint point. The finds are in Dorset County Museum Reserve Collection. (1947.3). <2> Sited to SY 88768662 by Mr. R.D. Ransome. <3> Area under grass and no surface finds were made during field perambulation. <4>
