Full Description

SZ 00197837."Putlake Farm. Inhumation burials and occupation debris have been found S of the farmhouse above the 300 ft contour. A collapsed stone cist, with two pieces of a coarse ware mug, perhaps a local copy of a 2nd century type, lying on the cover- stones, was found in making a silo in 1957. Remains of two inhumations without cists were found nearby about 1 ft below surface, one with bowl fragments of Brailsford's Durotrigian class 1; more burials were suspected in the W side of the silo. Surface debris in the field, including beach pebbles (sling stones?), shale and Romano-British sherds, suggest nearby occupation". <2>
