Full Description

Twenty-four acres of Medieval strip fields occur south of Herston Church, apparently arranged in four furlongs. Those along the contour have low risers. (1-2) The field system described above in (1-2) is visible on recent lidar imagery and aerial photographs to the south of California Farm. Several other areas of strip fields and ridge and furrow are also located in this area (see linked records). The earthworks consist of three areas of north-south oriented ridges and two areas of east-west oriented boundaries, visible over an area measuring 570 m by 305 m. (3-5) This site was digitally plotted during the South west Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
