Full Description
'b' This barrow which is situated at SY 82909104 has been cut on its southern quadrant by a modern East-West road. It measures 21.0m east to west and 12.7m north-south and is 2.1m high. It has no ditch and the mound is surmounted by an OS ring pillar and by a flag pole. Heather covered bowl barrow. <2>
'b' A bowl barrow; diameter 24 paces, height 4 ft. <4>
Tumulus (a) now falls within an area taken over by M.E.X.E., the destruction of the mound is possible. <3>
'B' - (15) - SY 82929105. Bowl barrow, 66ft diameter and 6ft high with flag-pole on centre. Where cut on the south by the road, the section showed that the mound was constructed of large heath turves. An ovate flint knife and part of a lanceolate flint dagger of Early Bronze Age type were found. Pollen analysis suggested that the barrow was built after considerable forest clearance. <5-6>
'B' SY 82909104. Two barrows as described by authority 3. Re-surveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. <7>
Two bowl barrows on Turner's Puddle Heath. The barrow situated to the northwest (Barrow A) has a diameter of 22 metres and survives to a height of 2 metres. Althought the southeast barrow (Barrow B) has been truncated by a road, it measures 22 metres east-west, 12.5 metres north-south, and is 1.5 metres high. The flag pole has been removed. <8>
A Bronze Age bowl barrow is visible as an earthwork on lidar imagery on Tonerspuddle Heath. The barrow appears to have been damaged on its southern side and is formed of two sub-oval mounds. The mounds measure 20 m by 14 m and 12 m by 8 m. (4) It is scheduled together with a second barrow located approximately 95 m to the north west (see linked record). This feature was digitally plotted as part of the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
