The finds included 12th to 15th century pottery, a spindle-whorl of soft stone , part of a whetstone, metal objects and iron slag, and bone and oyster shell. The pit was dug down to the gravel, the soil consisted of a dark humic earth without noticeable stratification down to 8 and a half ft. After that it became brownish before reaching the gravel.
