Full Description

A silver-gilt mount of Carolingian origin, made probably in the Rhineland and dating to the 9th century AD. A central square boss 15 by 13 mm divided into four panels by narrow ribs with thin medial lines coming from each corner. The central intersection of the ribs is surrounded by a small square. The four panels each have semi-circular decoration with petals or a flower around a plain member The outside of the mount has a raised frame. Between the frame and the central square boss are tri-lobed leaves of equal length, three on each side. It remains in the possession of its finder MR Isaacs of 3 Frome Road, Wareham.
