Bindon Abbey was founded in 1149, for Cistercian monks, by William de Glastonia on a site close to the present building at Little Bindon, being colonised from Forde Abbey. The community moved to the present site in 1172.

Bindon Abbey was founded in 1149, for Cistercian monks, by William de Glastonia on a site close to the present building at Little Bindon (SY 87 NW 1), being colonised from Forde Abbey (ST30NE15). The community moved to the present site (see SY88NE9) in 1172. <3-4>
