Full Description

The mounds shown on OS plans are the result of the dumpings of waste quarry material from the marble quarries. The main mounds extend eastward from Dunshay Manor and are centred at SY 98257965 and presumably the marble was extraced from that area. No working face of a quarry was found in the area. The mounds are heavily overgrown. <2> (Centred SY 982796) Purbeck marble quarries at Downshay or Dunshay whence came the marble for Salisbury Cathedral. Alice de Briwere, Lady of the Manor of Dunshay contributed for 12 years in 1219. <3>
