Summary

Bronze Age bowl barrow. In 1970 this monument was reported as being around 67 feet in diameter with a mound around 6 feet high, topped with a cylindrical stone nearly thought to be of comparatively recent origin. This may be one of six barrows in this area opened by antiquarian Charles Warne, who found cists filled with ashes in one, possibly cremation burials, and ashes in others.

Full Description

'C' - SY 73939956. Ditchless bowl barrow, 23.0m diameter and 2.4m high with flat top is surmounted by a modern stone pillar. <3> 'C' - (33) SY 73949956. Bowl barrow, 67 ft diameter and 6 ft high with hollow centre. The barrow is surmounted by a cylindrical stone column nearly 5 ft high (shown as Stone (NAT) on OS 6" 1902 & 1963), probably of comparatively recent origin. <4-5> 'C'. SY 73929955. Bowl barrow under grass, not ploughed over. Diameter 21.0 metres, height 2.5 metres. A stone pillar is sited in the exact centre of the barrow. None of the barrows has a visible ditch. Re-surveyed at 1:2500 on MSD. <6>
