Please read our .

Summary

Observations during soil stripping to the south of Swanworth Quarry in 1983 revealed a stone-lined pit or cist. Part of the lining of the pit survived in the form of several dressed limestone blocks, and its filling contained a quantity of pottery, quartzite hammerstone and animal bone. The excavators noted that the pottery was found in discrete blocks and might represent a number of vessels.
