Full Description

Kings Park at Pokesdown. An area of intense occupation in the Neolithic - Bronze Ages. Finds include: 5 Flint celts, 4 Stone celts (including a greenstone axe Group I and a Craig Llwyd axe Group VII). 8 Flint picks, 16 Leaf arrow-heads. 17 Petit tranchet arrow heads, 33 Barbed and tanged arrow heads. 3 Plano-convex knives. Scrapers ad-lib also 2 Beakers and 2 LBA urnfields. Finds mostly in Calkin Collections, British Museum and Druitt Museum Christchurch. <1> Kings Park Pokesdown covers approx 1 sq mile, the finds have, where possible, been given individual or group sitings. The area is now wholly built over by sports grounds and modern erections, centred at SZ 122927. A rep. collection of finds from this area is on show in Christchurch Museum. <2>
