Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary

This was L-shaped, 3.0m long with two courses of unbonded stone which continued as a limestone scatter in the 1976 excavation (site X12). There was no indication of a floor level. The structure is likely to date from the 13th-15th century and may form part of a mill complex on an adjacent property.

Full Description
D. J. Markell excavated a trial trench close to the mill stream, Christchurch, during 1973. This excavation was subsequently published as a short note in DNHAS monograph 5 (1).
The excavation revealed, beneath the topsoil, evidence for a medieval structure [S8]. This was L-shaped, 3.0m long with two courses of unbonded stone. The stones used were Purbeck limestone and flint. There was no indication of a floor level. The structure is likely to date from the 13th-15th century and may form part of a mill complex on an adjacent property.
A subsequent excavation by K.Jarvis for Poole Museums in 1976 (site X12), adjacent to and contiguous with the trial trench, showed that the structure continued to the south west as a limestone scatter.
