Listed Building record MDO8939 - The Gatehouse, Deer Park, Blandford Road, Milton Abbas

Lodge at former entrance to Park. Probably built around 1775, to designs by Sir William Chambers. It has ashlar stone walls and low-pitched slate roofs. Each face has a round-arched window with glazing bars, flanked by smaller fixed windows, i.e. a rudimentary Venetian window. There is a nineteenth century extension to the north, extended in twentieth century, with walls of brick and flint banding, partly slate-hung, and hipped tiled roof.

HIGHER LODGE (80580298), gateway, has walls of Portland stone ashlar and lead-covered roofs. It is of the second half of the 18th century and comprises two single-storied lodge cottages of classical design, flanking ornamental wrought-iron gates. Minor alterations were made in the 19th century. The stone gate piers have niches on the N.E. face, modillion cornices on all four sides, and ball finials. Curved wing-walls connect the piers to the symmetrical cottages on either side. Each cottage is square in plan and each facade comprises a round-headed recess within which the doors and windows are arranged. Above are classical entablatures, pedimented on the N.E. and S.W. fronts. <2> Gatehouse and Stone Lodge (formerly Higher Lodes) and gateway. Grade II. .<3> he Stone Lodge and the Gatehouse.
