Six circles visible on an aerial photograph, resembling ancient hut sites, but equally spaced intervals of about 50 m around this point. An investigation was planned, but made unnecessary by a chance remark referring to the searchlight battery at Chilcombe during the early part of the last war.

'Earthen Circles at Chilcombe
Following a report of earthen circles in the field (SY 52839117) immediately to the north of Chilcombe Church, the site was investigated and an air photograph showed six circles, resembling ancient hut sites, at equally spaced intervals of about 50 m. round this point.
Although the symmetry of their arrangement was suspicious preparations were made to investigate one of them. This was, however, made unnecessary by a chance remark referring to the searchlight battery at Chilcombe during the early part of the last war. Face was saved but this note is made for the sake of posterity.' {1}
