Full Description

ST 50030504 - This earthwork is situated on a ridge top and is a rectilinear enclosure composed of a ditch 6.5m wide and 0.5m deep with a spread and unsurveyable inner bank and fragmentary traces of an outer bank on the west side. In the S.W. corner it is shown to be older than the roadside hedgebank which dips to cross it. In the N.W. corner it spreads into a slight but definite hollow. The northern arm is formed by a spread bank with an outer height of 0.6 m. and an inner height of 0.4 m. Both the southern and eastern arms appear modern, though they may be hedge banks constructed on a former feature there is no visible evidence for it. The interior is fairly level, it is grass-covered and there are no traces of occupation. <1> Survey at 1/2500. Conditions as stated in 1. Situated at ST 5001 0505. <2> Irregularities along the ridge, not visible on OS Aps, suggest the possibility of a former IA/RB type field system with which this enclosure could have been associated. Earthwork surveyed at 1:2500. <3>
