Monument record MWX1300 - Coast Battery Gun Site
Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
A possible World War II coastal battery gun site identified above Burton Beach. The site was constructed in 1940-41 and is built of concrete and steel. A field visit in 2000 located the gun mounting, consisting of an incomplete ring of steel nuts and bolts almost completely buried in the ground. The feature was recorded then covered-over by the National Trust for reasons of public safety, and is no longer visible.
