Summary

Second World War coast artillery searchlight located on the Outer Breakwater of Portland Harbour. It was constructed between 1940-41. This structure is visible on aerial photographs, situated within the middle section of Portland's Outer Breakwater. A World War II coast artillery searchlight located on the Outer Breakwater, near Beacon 'E' light, Portland Breakwater. The searchlight was constructed in 1940-41 and is built of brick, concrete and iron. A field visit in 1983 found the structure to be extant.

Full Description

Coast artillery searchlight.Outer Breakwater, near Beacon 'E' light (fixed white), open cage top mark, Portland. <1-3> This structure is visible on aerial photographs, situated within the middle section of Portland's Outer Breakwater <4-5>. This feature was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset). It is still visible at this location on the most recent comprehensive aerial images available to the project.
