Monument record MWX1424 - Type 25 pillbox

Summary
A World War II type 25 pillbox located on the beach between Redcliff Point and Osmington, near Weymouth. Construction took place between 1940-41 and was in situ with corrugated sheeting and concrete.The entrance is at the rear and there are three embrasures. The walls are 15 inches thick, the embrasures 23 inches narrowing to 13 inches. A field visit in 1996 found part of the structure covered by a very large quantity of clay from the surrounding cliffs making access impossible.

Full Description
Typical type 25 pillbox built in situ with corrugated sheeting and concrete. At the rear it is now covered by a very large quantity of clay from the surrounding cliffs making access impossible. Entrance at the rear and 3 embrasures. It is half full of shingle. The concrete was made using beach shingle. with PLANS and measurements. Walls 15ins thick, embrasures 23ins narrowing to 13ins. <1-3>
