Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
Site of a possible World War II pillbox situated on top of a knoll on Studland Heath, with views of Studland Bay. The pillbox had been constructed by early August 1940 and was constructed of reinforced concrete. It was situated within the Studland Sub-Sector, defended by the 7th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment from October 1940, replaced in April 1941 by the 1st Battalion of the Coldstream Guards. The Home Guard unit manning defences within this sector was No.2 (East Purbeck) Company, 7th (Wareham) Battalion. It was probably demolished by the army in the 20 years prior to a field visit in 1995 which found the site littered with fragments of concrete and twisted iron reinforcing bars. The remains of the fractured roof are evident on top of the knoll.
