Monument record MWX1473 - Second World War pillbox, Studland

Summary
Site of a World War II pillbox situated west of Redend Point. The pillbox had been constructed by early August 1940 and was built of concrete. It was situated within the Studland Sub-Sector, defended by the 7th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment from October 1940, replaced in April 1941 by the 1st Battalion of the Coldstream Guards. The Home Guard unit manning defences within this sector was No.2 (East Purbeck) Company, 7th (Wareham) Battalion. The pillbox was demolished by the army in the 20 years prior to 1995. A field visit in 1995 located remains of concrete footings, slabs of concrete in the sea and on the beach immediately northeast of the site.

Full Description
A pillbox blown up by the army in the last 20 years. It lay above the beach and against the N facing cliff of Redend Point. Remains of concrete footings can be seen here and other slabs of concrete in the sea and on the beach immediately NE of the site. There are also displayed anti-tank blocks reused as sea defences on this part of the beach. LOCATION: W of Redend Point, Studland. <1>
