Full Description
Master: Captain Edmund Button, RN Built: 1652 Armament: 32 cannon Armament: 26 cannon (4) Owner: Royal Navy Date of Loss Qualifier: A One of eleven Kings ships and thirty merchantmen lost in the battle between Blake and Van Tromp which took place off Portland. The battle lasted three days, for which a special naval medal was struck. The SAMPSON was so disabled during the fight that her crew were taken out and she was allowed to sink.
