Full Description

Stranded/total loss (1) `During a most violent gale of wind from the ENE on Friday night, and nearly the whole of Saturday, the following losses and accidents occurred...The HIGHLANDER, Holmes, from St. Domingo to London, cut from her anchors and cables in Portland Roads and ran on shore to the northward of Weymouth Harbour; her cargo and materials expected to be saved. (2) `The HIGHLANDER, Holmes, from St. Domingo, which was driven on shore near Weymouth, was got off on Monday last, and conducted into Weymouth Harbour. (3) Source (1) expresses the date of the incident as the LL. reporting date of 08-JAN-1811. Master: Holmes Date of Loss Qualifier: A The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years.
