Full Description

`Weymouth January 31st: Yesterday morning was stranded on the beach near Bexington a brigantine burthen about 110 tons called the THERESA of Newport in Flanders, laden with coals. The crew were all saved. The vessel will become a wreck. It is hoped the greatest part of her cargo will be saved. (2) Source (4) gives the port of registration as Neuport, and expresses the nationality of the vessel as French; however, Nieuwpoort is in that part of Flanders now belonging to the modern state of Belgium. Date of Loss Qualifier: A The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known. Net tonnage
